Cooked Food Causes A.G.E.ing

Back in chemistry class, we learned that when heat is applied to a molecule, the molecule’s structure changes.  In essence, the original substance, with heat applied, becomes something else.  The problem comes when we prepare our meals by cooking them, and expect to receive all the nutrients we need.  Unfortunately, we aren’t.  Many of the vitamins, enzymes and phytonutrients are destroyed when we cook our food.

Another effect of cooking is the formation of advanced glycation endproducts. They are chemicals produced when proteins, fats and sugars are heated over 120 degrees.   Ironically, they do what they spell.  They age you.

A.G.E.’s are what make food look golden brown when it comes out of the oven.  It’s what everybody wants, not realizing that the a.g.e’s are linked to advancing the progression of degenerative diseases, including cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, kidney disease, rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, heart disease and diabetes.  (Here’s a little more light reading on A.G.E.’s and their effects.)

The solution to the problem of A.G.E.s?  Don’t consume them in the first place.  Instead, enjoy the bright, colorful array of fresh fruits and vegetables containing flavonoids and other life restoring nutrients.  Flavonoids are extremely beneficial to all body systems, for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.  Berries, in particular, contain a high concentration of these compounds, which greatly support the cardiovascular system.  You can get them from many other colorful fruits and vegetables as well.  Citrus and other tree fruits, peppers, tomatoes, green and red onions, celery, and others all contain various forms of healthful flavonoids and other plant nutrients that will give your body what it needs to restore, regenerate, rebuild and achieve optimal health.
