On Sunday, the fam and I took a little trip to one of my newly favorited places: Hollin Farms. We discovered it last summer. It’s a bit of a distance to get there from home, a little over 60 miles by car, but absolutely worth the drive. Such a relaxing, scenic experience.
The landscape itself when you arrive is amazing. Rolling hills, everything is green, peaceful, quiet open space.
The farm has vegetables and fruits you can pick yourself throughout the spring, summer and fall. This time, we went for the cherries! Rows and rows of cherry trees were there just waiting for us to lighten their load!
Spending time at the farm, walking around and gathering our little harvest, I couldn’t help but stand in awe of the abundance that God has provided all beings in nature. I thought about how every piece of fruit has a seed, which can be planted, and how hunger is unnecessary with all the land that we could be using to grow food. I saw my future self planting fruit trees on my own land and everywhere there was a space, to expand the abundance to more people. I thought about the fact that, if we just ate the food that was provided to us in nature from the beginning, we could eradicate the chronic diseases that plague humankind.
We had such a good time, and I’m looking forward to going back at the end of June for the white peaches, one of my top 5 all time favorite fruits!
As we were heading back, we decided to be spontaneous and stop at one of the wineries we saw along the way!
This was a completely new experience for me. We tasted six wines, made from the grapes growing right outside. Our favorite by far was the rosé. Had we come a little later, we could have enjoyed live music there, too. Nonetheless, it was fun to do something new.
Any ideas on another nature-inspired activity for our next outing? Let me know in the comments. If we try it, I’ll share in a post and give you a shout-out!
